Hmmm, too many to think of. Most likely a Honda Accord to replace mine ;D
However, the new Korean cars are definitely making me think about that. It is not going to be very soon anyways.
My mom, on the other hand, is looking for a replacement to her Mazda Protege anytime now.
We visited the Suzuki dealer to check out the Forenza. She REALLY liked it(as did my father and I).

if you do get the forenza... go KDM all the way and put OEM badges on the car...

The Forenza is not one inch sporty as the Protege is, but I suppose that is not what she is looking for.
On the topic of this thread again, I wish I knew when South Africa was getting the new Sonata. I would like to scoop up a base model.

The Forenza is not one inch sporty as the Protege is, but I suppose that is not what she is looking for. You're right, Andrew. She's not looking for a sporty drive. She's actually not really into driving or cars. Her Protege is not that sporty either, it's a '98 with the 1.5L 92hp engine. We actually visited Hyundai dealer as well. She was in both the Elantra and the Sonata. She didn't like the Elantra(sorry Andrew ), mostly she didn't like the seats and dash design. The Sonata won her over. She liked just about everything with the car, including the price. However, by her standards, the Sonata is too big. She is a horrible driver and did not think she can handle a car so big. They also have tiny parking spaces at where she work.

My sister is somewhat of a snob. She enjoys her BMW and would only consider German luxury cars or Lexus.
However, she rented a Hyundai Sonata LX while she was in Chicago, and thought the car is great. She said she has almost no complaints with the car. The leather seats, sounds system and the V-6 engine are top likes for her. She also thinks that the car is very smooth and quiet.
When she picked up her friend with the Sonata, her friend thought it was somekind of luxury car.

I would check out the spectra before i decided on the forenza. The spectra is a proven chassis and engine and im sure the daewoo workers are still bitter over GM taking them over and pulling them out of the US market.
But their are alot of choices in the small car market...almost ever car company has a small car or cars and even tho shes not an enthusiast she should at least check most of them out.

As for me, I enjoy driving my Accord ;D After driving my sister's car(which is a fine machine), I didn't feel too jealous. Which is why I thought my next car is going to be another Accord for sure. What's unexpected are the new Korean cars, Hyundai, Kia and Daewoo. The spy photos of the new Sonata and XG had me thinking that I might actually become a non-Honda driver

I agree, and since she's not into cars I did the research for her instead. I looked at every car in the Civic/Corolla range and came away with 4 cars that I thought are the best. Ford Focus, Mazda3, Chevy Cobalt and Forenza. I think there were too many Focus recall reports. Also, none in my family liked Fords due to past experience of owning several of them. My mom also liked the Mazda3 when I showed it to her, but was truned off when I told her the price(in which she thought was too much compared to the Forenza). The Cobalt has yet to be released. No one knows the price yet and Chevys are not known for reliability either. Which leaves the Forenza as the one that makes the most sense.

I'm pretty sure they're glad that now their cars are returning to the US. Also, with Lexus like fit and finish, I'd say they're doing a pretty impressive job for someone who's bitter. You're probably right on the Spectra, tho. It's been pretty well received in the press. I'll have to check it out sometime.(I also would need to compare its interior to that of the Forenza and warm up to its looks)

Well, I almost went off the deep end at the Hyundai dealership today. Engine light came on, and found out, that with timing belt(it was time, told them to put it on), my car repair bill is nealry 1,300! That makes us broke. Now we can not get our plumbing properly fixed! Hope it last 6-8 more months Hyundai's service centers have raised their prices a lot in the past 6-9 months! A year back, I could go to one pLAce and for 35 dollars, get a "scan" done of the can. Today? 80 dollars! Seems this 200 dollars for timing belt is steep, too, for any place. Does anyone know what Toyota/Honda charge? I heard more. Anyhow, waterpump fried, one spark plug wire"was missing"( break in wire) and almost fried the plugs, and had a few sensors messed up, too, The parts and taxes are abotu 600+ dolars, but labor is 700 dollars. They told me they could get Enterprise out there, for an overnight rentla, but when I blew my stack and said" I can afford a rental now!" I wILL Go to Dayton Hyundai... guy suddenly got me a "free" rental(they pay enterprise,) for as long as it takes! Before this, I was ready to giv eup totally on Hyundai. Now? Well, I may go back. i did tick off the salesmen when they asked if I was looking for a new car! I would no tbuy from the place I went to, they had a 99 sonata with cloth, no sunroof, etc....and almost 56, 000 miles, good condition, for almost 10, oooodollars!LOL Mine, GLS(like LX now) in great shape, etc, according to blue book, is only worth(to dealerships) 8grand! Criminals(they can afford to pay for "free" rental car).

You really could have done most of these repairs yourself if you wanted to...well maybe minus the timing belt cause ive heard the deltas are hard to change. You should invest in a scanner to diagnose problems yourself and repair them yourself. Your car is 5 years old with 60k miles and things are gonna break and sometimes those things break other things...the domino effect. Is the waterpump not covered under warranty? And yes repairs on hondas and toyotas are even more expensive, ive owned all 3 brands and hyundai is by far the cheapest for parts and service. change your current dealer invest in a scanner learn basic mechanics and if your want resale in a hyundai buy a santa fe! ;D I mean this in the nicest way.

My Honda civic lx costed 3 hundred some dollars to replace timing belt. I shopped around for that price too. The first place charged me 7hund. Labor prices for these timing belts are horrendous.

you know it funny about timing belts. but i have owned 6 cars of different brands that had belts and to this day i have never took one in to a shop. when replacement was needed i did them myself without the using a manual.....its never been hard for me to figure them out.the only time was my dad took his escort to PEP BOYS once and they got the timing off by 3 teeth...funny thing i had to go to show them how to align the belt without even looking at the book. they offered me a job right there on the spot. all i could do is laugh in their faces..told them if they made me a manager i would think about it.....they told me i would have to take their classes..i said for what to put belts on wrong like they do, didn't know there were classes for that...,
