Most likely, Hyundai for us, as it stands right now. elantra or Sonata is a different subject.
Like the Elantra(the seats are better, IMHO, than Sonata), and it is not too muc smaller than Sonata, BUT, the V6 and almost similar pricing(of base model with V6) is very close to msrp of Elantra fairly loaded up.
I had thought about looking at tC Scion, but spouse and I can not agree on even looking at one. I had e-mailed one dealership and the guy e-mailed me 2-3 times in as many days beggin me to buy a Toyota!
I asked the Scion salesman to refrain from further e-mails to me(this was 3 weeks back).
You go to Hyundai, they do not do that.
Service is decent, and we do not have sales people *doggin us(asa the used to say).
What about U?

well, I have a 97 Ford Escort with 130,000 miles on it. No major problems. Debating about getting a Hyundai. My family may think I am crazy, since they have Ford-fever forever.
I just am not thrilled by the Focus.
I am thinking of maybe GLS Elantra.
The ratings of JD Powers, Consumer Reports, and websites such as this one have me about convinced that it is very safe to buy a Hyundai in 2004.
I need to test drive a one, maybe during the 3 day weekend that is upcoming.
If I do, I will come back here and give my first impressions.

I currently own a '99 civic and am not too fond of it(mechanical problems with doors, windows). No other problems that I can think of even though the check engine light came on the other day.
Thinking about the next elantra event though the fairly new facelift and cvvt engine is pretty impressive to look at.
Interested in finding out more about the next elantra.
I am in love with the current Tiburon/Tuscani models. Every time I see one I can't help but to turn my head.

Since I am too young to drive, I am probably going to get my mom's 1998 Volvo V70. But yeah hjr, we wanted to rent a Sienna minivan from Toyota for the weekend because we had guests, and the guy emails back about buying one. My parents got pretty annoyed and told him we were trying to rent, and the guys said that the dealer didn't participate in the Toyota rent a car thingy

6, yeah, maybe waiting for march would be cool(we want sonata).... they claim the 4 may have 160HP. my current sonata V6 has est. 163hp(theylowered it form 170 by 4.5% or somethign like this).
It is tolerable. If the 4 is almost as quick(and perhaps similar sounding to V6 I have), I could go for that, if prices are say only 500-1000 more tops on msrp.
I am hoping we hear something form detroit autoshow,or chicghao(I think Detroit, due to the car coming out in March, and chicago show if feb, just weeks before the launch. I'd thnk Hyudnai would want to get the word out in magazines, etc, by early feb, from detroit show, to get attn to the new sonata asap).
If they also have pricing, and it is "toohigh"(for me), I will be out at hyundai lots asap for 04/"05" model. (read current hyundai sonata may sstay as 04/05 until march, then new one may be early 06 model).
also, may like the current one's looks better? Wish Hyudnai would do the elantra like this; when the sonata (99 model) came out, the 4 cylinder(rumored) to be 149HP, and elantra was 140(now elantra is 138 and sonata around 139, in "reality").
Anyhow, the difference, as we knew it , was .4 liters between the two engines(4's) and 9 HP only.
WOuld be nice to have a 150HP 4 for the elantra, and still haev the weight around 2,750lbs or so.
Oh well.

The SMART would be quite more expensive, but man, I have never been unfaithful in my love to Smart vehicles. They are so cute! But with a city attitude, too!

I am getting the Mrs. a Tucson in Dec. It's her Christmas gift. Once she saw it, she said she had to have it. Now just have to get the color worked out and we're good to go. By the way it will be an LX 4wd. We currently own a 2002 Xg350L (pearl white, she drives it the most, will become my daily driver), 2003 TIburon GT (silver, ultra pack 3 with 6 speed, that's my toy which will be used only for fun drives to keep the miles low.) I have a Hyundai family. Bet no one could have figured that out. Not to mention I can buy em way behind invoice. Roughly 15%. It good to have my employer.

hehehe, great benefits huh? Actually, a regular conumer might be able to get close to it. The way I can get that discount is you buy the cars the employees from the different regions drive. What Hyundai does is it allow the employee to "lease" a vehicle of their choosing, drive it for a few months or miles or whatever. Then they invite dealers to buy the through auctions. I pick mine before the go, so they stay new (meaning never titled in a dealers name or inventory), full warranty, about 3-5 K miles on it, and I get to pick and choose. THe benefit is I can find out who was driving the car (if it wasn't me) and decide based on that person if I want to buy it or not. My Tib came from the central region, and my XG came from Fountain Valley. I still have to post some pics so you can see the parking lot. it'll blow your minds.
