sort of surprised that Hyundai has not mentioned Hybrids, or CVT for Elantra(doesn't Civic have a CVT, 117hp?).
CVT's though, from what I have read, that belt can break, and supposedly, Nissan Murano's will last 200,000 miles, minimum(from tests they ran.Old cvt belts ran maybe 100,000 before needing replaced, and that is waht, a few thousand dollars?).
I dunno.

"of course they also stopped making the 5sp auto for the ion as well. They switched back over to 4sp autos." Actually, thejoyof6, they haven't flogged the 5-speed yet. I think with the facelift they plan to... (WOOPS! SORRY, thejoyof6, I REPLACED YOUR POST! VERY SORRY )

I agree that engine power is going up all the time.
However, the size and weight of cars has also gone up.
So the same amount of HP for cars a few years back would not feel enough of cars of today.
In the 90s, 190hp seems like a lot of power for most cars. However, 200hp seems barely adequate now.

yeah, weight/size/engine size all going up. That affects a lot right there.
Compacts used to weigh what, 2,100-2,400lbs 12-15 years back? Now they start out at 2,400 up to 2,900+lbs.

There is that rumored "high output" 2.0 Theta, which would be the natural engine to put in an Elantra GT.

At the direction of the elantra, I am expecting to see the 190 hp global 4cyl soon. All aluminum, so that will help with the weight thing. Imagine, and Elantra GT with 190 hp and a 5 speed. That sounds fun.

i just found these pics of the "new" Avante XD over @ HMC... this "nymph" edition and "Sports" and "Racing" edition look pretty cool... especially since you can get this in the "Racing" edition.. ... that's a hot looking spoiler...and this is the "Nymph" edtion.. ... ummm i wouldn't named it the nymph... it sounds like something else... anyways i guess the new elantra is due soon since these are like special editions....

Yeah, when they start doing limited or special editions, the writing's on the wall. I remembered Nissan having some Sentra "special/limited edition" car right before the remake of 1995 Sentra hit in March of 95.
They had a 1994.5 limited edition Sentra, loaded up, for under 12K msrp. About 6 months later, the new cars came out.
It seems South Korea gets the new versions before the USA does.
Anyhow, I like the fake wood trim, makes the interior not so bland looking, etc.
Hey, I read somewhere( here,? I don;t recall, maybe I even posted it? Must be getting old)... that Hyundai will offer an Elantra GT)sedan?) with cloth, also, instead of leather.

well it does make sense for the new models to be released first in S.Korea since they're made there... it's only natural...

Hmm, , when I was a Nissan fan in the 90's, Nissan released their New 95 Sentra about 4-6 monhts , in Japan, prior to USA, and they did make them in Smyrna Tennesse, also.
I guess like Hyundai will make Sonata in SOuth Korea and USA.

I went and checked out the 05 elantra gls 5-door today at my dealer. The checkered blue/black seat fabric is awesome and should be offered on the GT.( actually in a perfect world it would be offered on all their cars ;D ) The only changes i noticed were the lack of foglights and alloys, otherwise it looks exactly like a gt. Black bumper strips and all. Hyundai has changed some of the colors and their names on the elantra and my favorite color, Moonlit blue, is now available on the elantra. WOO HOO. The kenwood stereo will be missed.

Just a few points of interest...
The Elantra will not be manufactured in America. Hyundai needs vehicles with sticker prices of about 17,000 USD or higher to maintain a profitable margin.
Automotive News indicates 2007MY for new Elantra and Tiburon. Since they share a platform and should continue to do so with the Sonata Coupe in the works, some engine changes would be expected.
This parts just a guess, but how about the 2.4L as the base Tiburon and Elantra GT engine, the 2.0L as the Elantra GLS, and hopefully the 3.3L in the Tiburon GT?
