MOZEN, a second-generation telematics service developed by Hyundai Motor Co. in partnership with IBM and ATX, is based on an open architecture and is fully scalable. In simpler terms, that means the MOZEN system can be easily adapted to the specific requirements of any overseas market.
In addition to the standard audio-visual bells and whistles (CD/MP3/DVD player, AM/FM radio, TV tuner), the system has a DVD-driven digital map, which can store up to ten-times more information as the first generation CD map system. Users can navigate through the menus using the 5.8-inch color LCD touch screen. The system also responds to voice commands for safe, hands-free operation.
Among MOZEN's other innovations is MOZEN Secretary, a concierge service: With a simple touch of the SOS button, subscribers can connect to a call center for 24/7 personal assistance with reservations, travel information and other services. MOZEN also offers automatic collision notification (ACN): Should the airbags deploy, MOZEN automatically notifies the call center of the vehicle's location for the dispatch of emergency assistance. It also has stolen vehicle tracking and remote door unlocking capabilities.
MOZEN, a compound of mobile, generation, citizen and zenith, will first be introduced on the 2004 Equus (Centennial) limousine which debuts in Korea in November and next year will be offered as an option on the Sonata and XG as well as select Kia models.
Its remote diagnostic capabilities enable service personnel to troubleshoot the entire electronic system and, if necessary, the driver can be instantly alerted and advised to bring the car in for service.
Also new is the dynamic navigation service, which is capable of providing real-time traffic updates through a third-party information provider thus guiding the driver along the fastest route.
Naturally, the system includes the latest wireless Internet capability (offered in conjunction with a local cellular service provider) enabling the driver to check email. On voice command of the driver, the email can be read aloud by a voice synthesizer.
