Well, Check engine light came on about 5 seconds prior to car stalling out, and then smoke coming from that line from radiator to the side.,
I got a ride from some guy about 17 miles, luckily! Mother in law took me back, with 1 gallon mixed water/coolant. Car is acting a tad funny, like it is losing power form 40-55, but the last 1 mile, seemed ok.
I checked the fluid and seems ot be no leaks. maybe that 90 degrees for the past month help burn it up faster than usual?
Anyhow, I wish the dummy light would have came on sooner! check fluids every 6-8 weeks! Now, I gotta go pay 345-60 dollars to have a light turned off next week, or two. If it acts up, wil get diagnostics done, too.
At least it wasn;t the engine!
Just beware, check stuff more often in heat!

This happened in my 97 200sx, also, similar incident. Luckily, the car did not have problems liek SOnata seems to be having. The car shudders now, and sturggles to go 0-60, feels liek the 4 cylinder. Also, RPMs up over usual . Need to try to go in Tuesday to see about waht is wrong. Maybe computer chip for shifter? I had hoped all it would be is a charge to get the light turned off, stuff reset. I like Hyunai, but all of ths computer chips, etc, seem to be a big pain, even the check engine light is 35-65 to turn it off, depending on where you go.

Have you unhooked the battery for 30 mins to reset the ECU/PCM/TCM and possibly reset the CEL. Also do you mean steam instead of smoke was coming from under the hood? Smoke is very different than steam. ALOT of problems can happen when a car overheats, alluminium (no i cannot spell it correctly ) does not resond well to excessive heat so do a check over the entire engine...check for cracks, leaks, and check every hose you can get to. Do sonatas have a "Limp Home Mode" they go into when their is a major problem with the engine/transmission?

Mine did nto seem to have a limp homemode type of deal. It just died out, and that was it until 1 hour later, and 5 quarts of water/coolant and 1 qt of oil. I hope it is nothing major. Should know by Tuesday pm, after dealership looks it over, does the scan of it.
