ZAPPY3 Takes Scooters to the Next Dimension
SANTA ROSA, Calif., June 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Transportation
pioneer ZAP (OTC Bulletin Board: ZAPZ) announced today the launch of a new
three-wheeled version of its ZAPPY(R) scooter with a powerful, new drive
technology, innovations designed to make the scooter more fun and easier to
ride.
Called ZAPPY3, the new three-wheeled scooter uses a new, powerful drive
technology built into the hub of the front wheel. Powered by a 36-volt power
system, the larger, direct-drive wheel motor design improves the acceleration
and provides greater efficiency for longer riding. At the same time, the
three-wheeled configuration offers a new experience in scooter riding that
increases the stability while enhancing the maneuverability. The riding
platform has two smaller wheels on either side with the larger wheel motor in
front, so you ride in standing position with your feet placed side-by-side,
rather than skateboard-style standing sideways like on the original ZAPPY.
ZAP says the new scooter is easier to ride and will appeal to more consumers.
"The ZAPPY3 is a new standard in electric scooters," said ZAP CEO Steve
Schneider. "For those who love the thrill of riding electric scooters, the
third wheel and larger motor adds to the fun. At the same time it's easier to
balance for beginners. We think it will appeal to younger as well as older
riders."
ZAP popularized electric scooters in 1997, when its ZAPPY(R) scooter came
on the scene, snapping up headlines, appearing in Hollywood TV and film, and
scooting celebrities onto late-night talk shows. Quiet, rechargeable, and
portable, the ZAPPY captured the hearts and minds of thousands around the
world and helped spark an explosion of portable electric scooters. Hundreds of
scooters have entered the market since the ZAPPY was introduced, but ZAP
believes the new design will help it stay ahead of the competition.
The ZAPPY3 can literally turn on a dime; the handlebar rotates almost 180
degrees at slow speeds so you can reverse the scooter out of tight spots. The
handlebar is designed to fold in moments with the tools provided for easy
storage or transport. An LED-fuel gauge on the handlebar helps keep track of
the battery charge and a key is included for locking the scooter when not in
use.
ZAPPY3 is equipped with a 250-watt, integrated hub motor powered by three
sealed, 7 amp-hour, maintenance-free batteries. Top speed for the scooter is
12.5 miles per hour with an operating range of up to 15 miles per charge.
Range can vary depending on riding conditions, user weight, terrain and more.
Includes battery charger for use with 110-volt household outlet and takes four
to six hours for a complete charge. The ZAPPY3 weighs 70 lbs. and is 40 inches
long, 27 inches wide, and 38 inches high.
