hey, what's up? Hope all is well, whitefeather. Yeah, I knew a guy in 94 had a 82 Tercel( if U ever see That 70's show, it is ornage and sort of looks like their Tercel? Think it was tercel).
Anyhow, at the us coast guard base, the guy had one with 227,000, and no rust, and only replaced regualr fluids, etc. he said it was his dads, and he got it right before I left.
My 90 sentra had a few problems, but nothing major needed to be replaced, ever. At 233,000+, I traded it in; too many accidents(deer crumpled up front end, got rea ended by a 4 ton vehicle, etc) and had "done it in"(rust wise) plus I would have needed to replace some stuff that would have been 3 grand+.
They really did( to quote one automotive source)" Overbuild" they japanese cars of 80's and most of 90's.
The customers who owned some of those"replace no major parts in 200+K miles" would be horrified by todays' cars needing water pumps at 100,000 miles, or something akin to this.
There was a time that if a car got near 100K, it was time to trade it in(70's, that I recall). Mom would get 75,000 in 5 years, make last payment, wait a few months(to save some cash for another new car/down payment) and get another vehicle, because'this one is due to fall apart soon".
She had a new car(79 Buick Regal)) warranty of "3months/90 days" , lol.
The car had electrical fire at day 62!
Luckily, she had the warranty!
Our 90 sentra only had 1yr/12K bumper-bumper,a nd 3/36K for everything else.
Imagine anyone trying to sell a car with 1year/12K warranty -today- brand new!
Didn't VW have one with onlyf 2years/24K not too long ago?
One last note: one dude had a Stanza(91) at the base, and by 94, and 67,000 miles, it needed a new water pump. He said he would never buy another Nissan? Why>
Due to the water pump. he said it should have lasted until 150,000 miles, at least!
I know a lady, 58 years old, works at the local college, and she said"all foreign cars are junk"
She believes that, too. I aksed if she ever drove one, or whatever, and she said no.
I will say this , my 90 sentra shocked me on one deal, the paint, after one winter here(gravel on road to help tires get traction, etc) had paint missing lower door. Looked sand blasted to primer!
That was bad paint. Great for South Carolina, bad for Ohio.
