You mean in my mass IM?
I mean that the current Equus in N-American guise is now a defunct idea. Gone.
However, the next version will come, I suppose. That is, after the new XG, so as a 2007 0r 2008 model.
These images will be of the current Equus, in its N-American form. (which never went on sale.)

There are a few example of the equs currently in the hands of Hyundai executives in the US. I think the number is 3 vehicles, but it could be a few more. Dealers have been pushing for it, but it will most likely not be coming to the states soon. In all likelyhood the us will see the equs' replacement, most likely under hyundai's luxury brand badge (assuming it ever get's off the planning stage) or if not, then as a Hyundai.

I am going to send the pics to Andrew tonight. Don't worry about chopping them. The pics are one of the three Santeno was talking about. Hopefully CENSORED sees them and pisses blood for a few hours. That guy is a CENSORED.

I have been reading this thread with interest. The only thing that some of you have gotten incorrect is the notion that the dealers wanted the Equus. HMC wanted the US to have the last Equus, but HMA and the dealers were dead set against it. The bottom line was that Hyundai as a brand was just not ready to support 35K-40K vehicles. IMO it still isn't. Hopefully with the slew of new products that time will come soon. But for many Hyundai dealers today, Elantras, Sonatas, and Santa Fes represent 70% of sales. Getting XGs sold has been difficult. Much work still needs to be done to raise expectations to the point that customers with 40K to spend visit a Hyundai store.

Xhyundai is correct in that Hyundai has offered the Equus as well as the Terracan the last few and it keeps getting turned down by HMA. A lot of the dealers on the east coast as dead set against the Equus. They apparently would rather have a minvan(which they are getting) and a full size truck (which I see as a waste of time and effort). West coast dealers have been fairly receptive to the idea of the Equus.

Interesting, and not surprising. Look what disasters the Passat W8 and Phaeton have been for VW.
I'm a bit surprised they wouldn't want the Terracan, though--big SUVs are all the rage. Is it just too crude in its current form for the American market? Or too underpowered?

speaking of the Phaeton.... i saw one on the 405 freeway... man i gotta say it's an ugly design (for me)... the front looks like a big passat while the back reminds somewhat of current horrible Chevy Impala...who is VW kidding..? i wouldn't spend 85 g's on a VW...

I like the Phaeton. It is restrained in some areas, not restrained in others ex. grill and wood), but overall I do like it, could be better though.

There are few reason's the Terracan won't ever be here. One, the Santa Fe will be the same size next year, with the Tucson taking over the small segment. Two, Hyundai wants theie SUV's in the States to stand out in design. The Terracan is a me-too box. Three, HMA wants nothing to do with a rebadged Mitsubishi. I think with the recent push the XG is getting, the target date of late 07 for the Equus isn't to hard of a pill to swallow. I have never driven so I can't say they are incredible to drive, but I have riden in one. For the time that was more than enough and it was GOOD!
