ok, i have my speedo in past few months go off actual speed by 2 mph. I called the place i had been getting servicce done for years,a nd the car e-mailed me and claimed"we cna't fix that, it's electronic!"
Well, I called another dealership, and the guy siad they use a radar type of gun, and hceck it, and if the gun says ti is off, they can fix it.
I repleid to the first dealership, and relayed this info, and he never replied(service writer)!
I was gonna raise a big stink over this, calling 800 number, etc....and reporting this lying dude, but, spouse said not to, ain't worth it. car is off by only 2 mph, can adjust fro it by going over speedo's numer(in a 55 zone, do 57)...to compensate.
I should not have to compensate, or get the brush off by the closest dealership(which is 60+ miles away, one way).
Seems hyudnai's cars get better every year, but stink at the dealerships.

hey, we got a tc with nearly 18K on it, and everything is working on that...so why can't hyudnai let these dealerships work on stuff like sciondoes? No Questions Asked(that WAS the way they used to do it, but I heard that they are clamping dodwn on claims under waranty).

Well you car is performing as normal. Every speedometer is off between 1 and 9mph at any given time and is to be considered "normal". Most are off 1-3 mph. Your car may have shown you going 2 mph over when you passed the radar but 30 minutes later it could have been correct or just 1 mph over. Plus theres no guarantee that the radar was correct either. Your car is fine, your dealer sucks but most dealers do no matter what brand you have. I suspect your scion dealer treats you well because your not 16 years old and they know that if something is broken or wrong that you didnt cause it. Try another Hyundai dealer HJR.
One more thing, i GUARANTEE that your tach, temp gauge, and your fuel gauge are off a few clicks as well.

yeah. th eone dealership that did reset my speedo on our old 99 sonata, was sold, to a less caring bunch, I shall say. My speedo was off in late 99, and the mechanic fixed it in 20 minutes....was done with a wire(today it's all electronic, they claim).
Too bad that mechanic isn't around any more. he was honest, would evn call you into the garage and show you what was wrong, not just claim something was awry, and charge ya to fix it.
I might try a local dealership, they sell a lot of used Hondas, toyotas, Nissans, aorund here, and Suzukis, and "Big 3" stuff.... they advertised they can do tune ups, etc, for all foreign makes)(I called them, and they said give them a few days-week, make an appt, and they can get what they need for say a 30K tune up).
May give them a chance on such a "minor" tune up. They are 8 miles away, cost slightly less than Hyundai, and may do a good job, from what I have seen.
If they do a good job, I may just go there for tune ups.

Try this small fix to see if it works: Have someone sit in the car and watch the gauges while you disconnect and then reconnect the negative battery cable. Most cars will reset the gauges once the battery has been reconnected. They reset themselves by "sweeping" all the way to max and back again just like the new legacy's and the old contours did. Im not for sure if Sonata's have this ability but its worth a shot. Ive done this to our Mazda6 a few times since the fuel gauge likes to wander a tad after 15k miles or so.
