Korean Air, Hyundai Offer Help in Southeast Asia Korean Air has initiated relief operations for victims of Sunday's climatic disaster in Southeast Asia. The domestic airline said Thursday that it plans to use one of its cargo planes, the KE373, to transport relief materiel from the National Disaster Prevention and Countermeasures Headquarters and Korean Red Cross at no charge.
The airline will carry 14 tons of blankets, bedding and emergency relief sets and 12 tons of drinking water (provided by the company itself) to Jakarta, Indonesia on Friday morning.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors said they decided Thursday to send US$1.5 million (W1.65 billion) in relief funds and materiel to help reconstruction efforts in areas in Southeast Asia that were affected by the earthquake and tsunamis.
About 5,000 of the company's staff and dealers in Southeast Asia have come together on their own to form a volunteer service team that has begun restoration work in the area.
