I went shopping with my mom and bought her a brand spankin new Elantra GT Hatch. It's in silver and she loves the car. I just saw it at night, but have yet to see during the day. Told her to drive between 2-3 rpm for about 4,000 miles and to warm up the car or drive idle for a couple of minutes. I absolutely love the car!!!

Actually so doesn't need to break in the car. Don't worry about the whole RPM for mileage. However, with the new engines, have her change the oil @ 1000 miles, 3000 miles, 6000 miles and so on and so forth. She should get higher mpg than what the sticker says this way. I did that at the suggestion of one of our techs and it's gotten me higher than expected mpg on both my XG and Tib. It works. Also, congrats on the GT.

Thanks megadethmartyrdethmartyr
I also heard from the dealer that the reason why the engines on the new Elantras are loud is because they started using their own tranny's and it was made that way so that it would become more reliable. I don't know if that guy was fully honest or knowledgeable.

When you say loud, do you mean when you rev it or just at idle? Quite often the 4cyl kinda sound loud until they warm up, after that you should barely hear it. I kinda think he was blowing smoke. Hyundai has been using their own tranny's for quite some time now.

I'm just referring to hjr's posts when he said that he test drove some elantras. He stated that it was loud, but I noticed that it is fairly silent. I took it out for a spin and I love the way it drives.
