1) tonight, found oil in my coolant! Cracked heaerd, perhaps? Just spent 1,300 on broken stuff 2 weeks ago, and I do nto even have 116,000 on my sonata yet! 2) Wife is also sick of this. We liek the cars, and the dealerships, buit we can not afford a grand every few weeks. If her car wasn't under warranty, we'd had have spent 1,100 on her car 2 months ago for front axels messed up along with wheel bearings. WE co-sign for boht cars, so we can afford newer cars, so spouse said No More! I must concur. I have had only 2 cars as bad, or worse; 1987 chevy spectrum anbd 97 200sx. our 77 camaro ran longer w/o problems, and so did our 90 sentra. Wifes tibby will most likely be next with proiblems, soon. again. Honda or Toyota may be more costly, an dmayeb "not as nice or exciting" as Hyundai, but if I were on my own, or one of uys loses work, we'd be walking now. This next bill will be on charge card, that we can't really afford if it is cracked headers. Here i go ona na don for years, and as soon as 100K hits both cars, they slowly fall apart! Hyundai blew it.

You should have coolant in your oil as well, and their should be white looking foam on the dip stick and prolly on the oil cap. Your car might also have smoky white exhaust. Have you noticed any lose of coolant, oil, or any leaks? Have you ever changed the coolant in your car?
and didnt your car overheat just a few weeks ago?

Oh yea speaking of toyota, i will gladly mail you palm size junks of rust that fall out from underneath our 97 tacoma, with 101k miles, everytime i hit a bump or wash it. The rusting started at around 30k miles too. I think you either just got a bad car or bad luck...the late 90s were not the best times at hyundai and everyone knows that. Dont loose the faith!
Also the interior dome light doesnt work, the rear springs have broke 3 times and are broken currently(we have never towed ANYTHING or hauled more than groceries in it), the horn quit at 70k as did the washer fluid pump, the throw out bearing went at 60k, the stereo died at 20k, the headliner has been replaced twice, the speedo shakes so bad you cant see how fast your going...i could go on and on but i still love that truck for some reason.

Can you take a pic of this oil in your coolant, maybe email it to me?
Perhaps the dealer used a pressure system to blow out all of the coolant from the water pump replacement and damaged something...its happened before.

Yes, they said they flushed the system, and the car did seem to hesitiate(like almost stalling) from 10-45mph. I thought it may have been that chip for the sifter.
The fluid is like a muddy color now, really liquidy, but with some oil.
Hey, how can I get these guys to pay for it if they messed it up? I know htese clowns will try to get me to pay!

Sorry to hear that hjr. I do know some hyundai owners and they have no problems, what so ever, with their cars so I think I'll just end up buying an Elantra. Also, I don't think there is ever escaping a lemon reguardless of what badge it wears. I've heard of corolla's, civic's, and even the infamous camry being pieces of junk.
All I know is please stay away from Euro's!!! You'll end ups spending a whole lot more just so that you can say it's an import from Europe. That's not saying a whole lot these days.

I wouldn't call the Toyota Camry 'infamous' although I myself am very tempted, too.

Good one, thejoyof6. Contact Hyundai dealer immediately, hjr.!

well, the dealership did NOt use a pressure system, just ran the engine a second or two(like in manual).
Here's the deal: They said that the radiator is ko'd. Why? It is Two-Chambered, one for coolant, one for Tranny Fliuid(?)...... and the barrier between the 2 corroded, and they mixed(not oil , tranny fluid)..and I caught it , apparently, before anything got into tranny itself. So, new (after market) radiator, flush the system, fill, and drain the tranny, new filter,etc... 600 dollars. Not cool.
IF this thing has No More problems in the next 11-12 months, we will buy another Hyundai, a GLS Elantra, no sun/moonroofs, no leather; just automatic as extra, and maybe car mats/splash guards. If we have More problems, Toyota we will be going to.
No more expensive Hyudnais (to us) for us again.
Wish I could have gotten that 3,500 off sale last Dec off elantras. Maybe next Summer, Fall, say 3-4 months prior to new elantra's coming out in 06, can get a few grand off?
This is old, though.

I smell something fishy with the dealer. They could have possibly unhooked the coolant and the tranny lines and reconnected them wrong...dumber things have happened. But look on the bright side, your tranny fluid needed replaced anyways.

? I need to look a few things up. It sounded weird, too. My deal is this: I had the car back for 15 days or so before the major deal happened. (the coolant was green for 14 days, becase I kept checking on it to see if it needed more topping off). Who knows?

called a radiator shop in CA. They said most modles do have tranny fluid and oil lines that run through the radiators. they said that the metal that seperated the coolant from lines was corroded, and that in turn hurt the tranny line and it ruptured, and they mixed. So, no, it is not a hoax.

Ive been searching around hmaservice.com and from what i gather the 99-01 sonata doesnt have a tranny cooler but rather a tranny oil line cooler. If this is the case then their is no way that you have tranny fluid in your radiator. Can anyone confirm this?
