Tibby is a bit over 11,000 units sold YTD, versus 13,000+ YTD for 03. 1,500-2000 units less than last year sold. Tibby has Not went over like Hyundai South Korean bosses thought it would when it debuted "new" a few eyars back. They were prdicting 27,000 units a year sales. Maybe18-21,000 a year, if lucky. They do need to look at that tC(which seems to be selling at a good clip, over 6000 units vs 1,700 for Tibby). I know, some may say "not same ", apples /oranges,but to most buyers of 2 doors sporty vehicles, they think tC is a better deal, overall, I gues(from sales, and comments). V6 tibby might be better. You get the idea. If not for Sonata and Santa fe, their numbers would be down TYD, overall, vs last year. They had better hope the Tucson brings in good numbers, and the redesign of Accent works it'd magic next year, too. They can not totally rely on 2 models out of 6 to keep numbers up, can they?

dwon 1.5% July vs July03. Umm, the Spectra sales are Down(a lot, IMHO)//// and that is not good! The new Spectra was supposed to bring in More Sales, Not less! I guess the old Spectra was seeling ore on price, and when potential new buyers came along, and saw the price changes, they decided to go elsewhere to spend their cash( New Spectra in my area was like 2 grand off msrp already, before you bargain). I must admit, the "old"(current) Elantra is about as good. I liked the last generation elantra (speed/0-60) better, but the car was lighter. www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=wardsauto.story&STORY=/www/story/08-03-2004/0002224456&EDATE=TUE+Aug+03+2004,+04:08+PMHere's the sales link. Sorento hit a high of over 5000 units sold. a record.

A couple of things... 1) AFAIK, both Hyundai and Kia had significantly lower incentives last month than they did the same time a year ago. For sales to remain level with fewer incentives to customers is fairly impressive. 2) Tibby sales are doing exactly what all sports cars do in their third year--its sales are dropping. That said, the drop is no where near as dramatic as that of cars such as the Eclipse and Celica in their third years (the Celica went from 60,000 sales in year one to only 10,000 in year four). Also, sales of 18,000 units this year would be quite respectable. Other than the tC (which may see its sales flatten out before year's end--who knows) and the Acura RSX (which only sells about 25K units per year), few cars in this class manage 20K+ sales per year. 3) The Accent's getting to the end of its lifecycle; sales are decreasing. Still, it's holding its own against the newer Aveo and Scions. Same goes for the Rio. 4) Spectra sales are on-target. You have a new model, which typically takes time for consumer acceptance. All, the hatchback, which accounts for a third of the car's volume, was more or less unavailable last month, as dealers sold off remaining stocks of the old car and had a few copies of the new one trickle in. And let's be real here: if you were interested in a Spectra hatchback, and saw the new one sitting on a dealer lot, but, say, not in the color you wanted, you'd wait till August to get yours, too. ;D I'm not saying everything at Hyundai and Kia is perfect in terms of sales, but I don't think you can read too much into these numbers. After all, there's more to life than sales numbers. If you just focus on that, you're no better than GM.

Looks like all the models did well for July of this year compared to July of last year, even if the YTD sales are lower on some. All but the Elantra and Tib sold more in fact, and the Elantra only sold about 300 less while the Tib only sold about 100 less.
I'd guess one of the reasons the Accent has less sales is because many of the people looking to buy an Accent can buy an Elantra for not much more with certain rebates available. The same can be said for people looking to buy an Elantra and deciding to get a Sonata instead (plus the fact that people like what JD Power says).
I'm sure the Tuscon sales will be slow for the first couple months but I bet at the beginning of next year the sales will rise as there will probably be lots of rebates and deals on them.

Hyundai/Kia increased Europe sales by 12.3% in July (18% year to date). Its really impressive because all the top companies lost sales last month (even Toyota - 9.6%).
We really need to see the Accent replacement over here to increase sales a lot more, the Getz, Santa Fe & Coupe (Tiburon) are the only cars that are competitive for our market at the moment.
