Its just one more button errr lever to push...consumers like buttons, levers, and switches. Its makes the vehicle more fun. But yea most vehicles have the same or slower 0-60 times when you use the generic shiftronic functions.

Not being snide or rude, but does anyone really care about the shiftronic deal for Sonata? Most automotive testers said they think it is more like a gimmick than anything really useful(like for manual shift fans, they do not think it is such a hot item to have). I could care less about it, personally. i actually didn't care for it until i really used it... yesterday.... i was driving up hills and ridges near pyramid lake (SoCal)... i just downshifted and it felt great pulling away from cars going up hill doing about 80mph and blasting the AC... so now it really usefull for when i got on trips... it's not really necessary when your in the city just put it in drive and your set..

It's generally most useful for dowshifting and inclimate weather. It is great in the snow as you don't have to use the brakes so much, just use the tranny to help slow you down. Also, by starting in 2nd, it acts like a traction control slowing down the tires to maintain grip. I have read the training info way too many times.

yeah, thanks for the info on the shiftronic, guys. I am pretty sure we'll be buying Sonata again. I use the 2nd gear for takin goff at stop signs in 4-5inch snow(for the 99 automatic), and sometimes 3rd gear if not so bad, or to slow down. I would need to read the manual, also, so as not to mess up the thing.
I read it is difficult to mess up with shiftronic? That was what one tester claimed(said Hyundai built it with fail safes-computer logic-so even if you shift at wrong time, the computer would "fix it"?).

Don't worry, you can't break shiftronic. It won't let you.

this just in NEW SPY PICS... file1.bobaedream.co.kr/special/special1091123950_2.jpgfile1.bobaedream.co.kr/special/special1091123950.jpgas you can see the NEW SONATA is done and completely uncovered.... D :-XM I REALLY LIKE IT it looks real mean in the back... and if you look closely you can tell it's atop of the line model because it has rear parking sensors on the bumper...for some reason on the bottom pic this car looks huge compared to the current one... and this car color should be black and not silver..., silver doesn't suit the car... black does...ohhh man source; bobaedream click on the links....

Actually, the parking sensors don't necessarily indicate a top-spec model. Cars overseas tend to be far better equipped than US models.
Very handsome--clearly influences of the Pas-sat and Accord, but let's face it, nothing in the midsize sedan class is really that radical (well, not since the Pas-sat was originally released in '98--the car was radical by standards of the time!)
If the HP/Torque numbers come true, this car should quickly shoot to the top of the class. Now if only it had a stick!

Those rear parking sensors look like holes for a missing trim piece. I know their not but IMO hyundai could have done better with them.
