I picked up TWM Performance short shifter last week and finally installed it today. Here is my opinion...
The kit came with all the hardware necessary to install the shifter as well as simple to understand, easy to follow instructions. Installation took approximately 1 hour. The only problem I ran into durring removal of the stock shifter was due to improper force being used. There was this pin holding the top ****er cover in place that had to be punched out. but I ended up smaking the punch too hard causing the shifter cover to crack. Still functions properly though.
I didn't drive my car much after the installation (short test drive up-shifting through all gears, then down shifting to miscellaneous like 5/2, 4/3, etc.) but there is a significantly noticable change in throw distance over stock. Before and after measurements between 1/2, 2/3 3/4 etc were measured using a tape measure on both shifters without shift knobs and using the "fresh air" vent lever as a point of reference. Based on my calculations, the throw distance was reduced approximately 66% (5.25" down to 3.5" between gears).
The amount of effort required to move the shifter increased a bit. However, this is a common side affect with most short shifters due to the decrease in leverage from having a shorter lever. This side affect can be by decreased by installing a matched "Weighted" CENSORED Knob from TWM Performance. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to test the knob. Anyways, besides the minor increase in effort to shift and the shorter throw distance, the TWM Performance Short Shifter moved through each of the gears just as smooth as stock.
As far as quality and durability goes...As I stated earlier, I didn't drive it much but the shifter is probably indestructable. Who ever heard of a shifter cracking in two anyway? This product should give you a lifetime of quality service.
Those are my opinions. Do as you will with them. My opinion, a great addition for a buck thirty.
Pics: With a shift knob and shift boot in place, it looks like a shifter that has been hack sawed down by about 2 inches. Check out www.twmperformance.com for product pics, and further info.
