I believe it will be a late 2005 model, meaning it won't come till a month or so before 2005. Why? I think a larger engine will go in. Maybe all new engines. It is based on the Elantra platform but the Tibby only struggles because Hyundai is inexperienced. If they don't find a way to put a bigger engine in the Tiburon's bay, it could lose out. It has good power, but more would sell it better. I am not sure of the new engines, or if this will be for the 2006 model year.

With the debut of the GK in '03, I feel we are on the right track with the Tiburon. I had a RD 2000 before I got my '03 GT V6, the GK is light years ahead of the old platform imho. Yes, more power is in order and I think we'll see it. One request? RWD!! This car begs for it! My Tib would retain all the great GK features, add RWD and give me a DOHC 6 Cyl at about 250hp from the factory. Maybe find a way to shed 200lbs, even 100 would be great.

RWD is far off, but dont worry... 4WD is NOT!

Hate to disagree, but Hyundai said the 03 tibby has it's own platform, versus the previous 2 generations. Tibby sales are nowhere near where Hyundai thought they would be. They are lucky to sell 1,500 units a month, recently. Looked at that Wards thing hjr posted for sales. Not Good at all.
This renewed "More HP= Better car" is dumb,IMHO. Same for LargerSUV's = Safer vehicle. Whatever. Anyhow, as I was saying,Tibby got too big and heavy. Should have maybe made the 01 model say 2" wider, 2" taller, and a few more inches of wheelbase(like GT Elantra), and kicked up the 140 HP to 160 at least, and the 200 HP V6, but not make the thing weigh nearly as much as the Sonata. in 1998, an FX Tibby could be had for 13K end of year. Not now(I know, FX is no longer here?) but...you get the idea. Used to be more affordable. Read the Tibby is not like Elantra; elantra, you get MORE for your money, where as Tibby you barely get what you pay for(now). It's not the bargain it used to be. Make it a car like Scion Ct coming out, with the weird roof, or perhpas a partial removable roof(to haul tall stuff, and a few tie downs in trunk area).Make it a sports car with a few(minor) suv features,. Have the rear hatch as removable, or just a window that can go into the hatch(like power windows used to be for older station wagons). I dunno. they need help. I read it is "iffy"if USA dealerships will continue to carry the Tibby. heard they do not want it anymore, really.

Don't pay attention to the "rumors" on the Car Spy shot site. Most of them are utter crap. No, current generation Tib will not not get a bigger engine. It's doing fine against Eclipse and Celica. Do you know how many of the Celicas were sold last month? Sale of 1,100~1,400 is not bad at all considering the features and performance of the current Tib. Of course it can be improved, but at what price? Any major improvement will price it out of the target market.
BTW, GK is based on heavily-modified platform of which the current Elantra was built off. So much so that Hyundai engineers said it's like a new platform. It just tells you how flexible the platform is.
GK will get a facelift and CVVT Delta this summer in Korea, so the 2005s will show up on the dealer lots in Oct./Nov.

in Hyundai's case what it exactly does the cvvt do besides loose a couple of ponies..?

No, it doesn't lose a couple of ponies... In all applications of CVVT, not just Hyundai's, the purpose is to improve performance and emissions.

Elantra(last years model) had 135 or so HP, and 132 or 133 lb per sq ft of torque. With VVT(or, cvvt), this year, it hits 138HP, and 135-136lbs of torque, and does get the cleaner emissions.

Dealers do not want to stop carrying the Tib, not sure where you came up with that. I assure you the power ratings on the Tib are going up while keeping the weight steady or lower. The tie-ins with Mercedes is helping in learning how to use aluminumn to our advantage, micro-fnishing crankshafts and whatnot. The 3.5L won't see the TIb any time soon. Expect to see the 3.3L from the 05 Sonata by 05 in the facelift or 06 with production CCS. Yes, more power and convertable hard top. By the way the CCS's top is just modified CLK top.

I would like to add one thing:
A guy in here posted that a person barely gets its money's worth when buying a new 2003-2004 Tiburon. I like to disagree.
I was in the market for a new sports coupe, and I found Tiburon GT V6 6SPD, leather, premium sound, etc to be the best value there is. I paid US $17.3K for it, and that price is WAY BELOW what ACURA RSX-S was asking for. They offered me US $25K for Acura RSX-S! You know what, that price ain't that bad for Acura RSX-S either. What about Celica GT-S? You pay about 24G's for that crappy car! Have you seen the dyno test for all three models? Oh man, I don't know what people see in celica, that is a piece of junk! Oh the other hand, Tiburon's performance is on par with Acura RSX-S. I think Hyundai still offers a LOT of car for your bucks!
One more thing. I know that a lot of people like the high revving RSX-S'x and Celica GT-S's, but you have to realize that these are machines too. Any machine driven hard are bound to break down, regardless of what make it is or where it is made from. You take a close look at the dyno test for RSX-S and Celica GT-S, and tell me at what range of RPM they get their maximum ponies and torque. Umm....way up there. That is the reason why those people who drive RSX-S and GT-S LOVE to floor their cars! Not good for the machine though. I think Hyundai being an unreliable vehicle is an old story by now. If I remember correctly, in 2003, Hyundai vehicles tied with Honda on reliability rating according to the J.D. power associates. They were second to Toyota only, and only by 1 stingin point.
