Let me clarify some things.
We have just started production cars for dealers.
The official start of production has always been March 05. It was March 1 now it is March 21.
We will start building 60-100 cars a day and ramp up to 500 or so in about 6 weeks. I know that sounds like a lot of time, but you have no idea how difficult it can be to work out all of the bugs in the system and the people on the production line.
It will take several weeks of production before Hyundai officially releases the car for sale. They want the dealers to have an inventory before it is sold.
The NF Sonata has been built in Korea for several months now, but they NF in US will only be built in US.
Any other questions?

Hey tmbnorm,
Welcome to the site, and thanks for the information!
I agree with you--the NF Sonata is very nice, indeed. I sat in the Korean-built car that was introduced at Detroit, and my sole complaint with the interior was that the plastic interior door handles aren't as nice as metal ones--truly, barely a quibble.
One question: any chance of us getting nav as an option at some point?

HMMA is now under "production" for the NF Sonata.
We are scheduled to produce 400 cars in March. 4700 cars in April and 9700 cars in May. Time will tell if we can really produce those numbers.
There will be a second shift later on this year. The maximum capacity of the plant is 300,000 per year. We will also make the new Sante Fe. That will start in Jan of 2006,

went to local Hyundai dealership(well, largest dealership in SW Ohio area). Spoke to the finance mgr. He told me he thought they were doing pre-builds now( ??) and dealerships would get the 06's in late May-June(in this area...he said hyundai "flooded" the market with 05's, so now they gotta get rid of them, plus Hyundai wants the cars outta Alabama to be nearly perfect from Job 1). I believe tmbnorm(along with CR saying April launch date)..... I did not really say a lot to the guy. He did tell me that Hyundai MAY have a 06 at the local autoshow, but he can not say for sure since it is Hyundai of USa's call. They set up the shows, what will be shown, even at the local show level. I hope they have one, at least! But, I have a weird feeling they won't.

Good to "see" you again, megadethmartyr!
Going to Try to go to one of the dealerships towards Dayton, on my way doing other errands, and see if they have any 06's.
We usually are last to get stuff, it seems.
Have a good one.
